Challenges of Bedding Materials

1. Stable Supply and Cost of Bedding Materials

• Resource Depletion: The supply of commonly used bedding materials such as wood, rice straw, and sawdust is limited, and shortages are becoming an issue in certain regions.

• Price Surge: Increasing demand and supply shortages have led to rising costs of bedding materials in some cases.

2. Environmental Impact

• Waste Management: Used bedding materials generate a significant amount of waste, and improper disposal can lead to environmental pollution.

• Greenhouse Gas Emissions: Decomposition of bedding materials can release methane and carbon dioxide, contributing to the carbon footprint of the livestock industry.

3. Hygiene Management

• Pathogen Spread: Damp or unsanitary bedding conditions can promote the growth of bacteria and parasites, adversely affecting livestock health.

• Antibacterial Needs: Bedding materials require antibacterial properties, but the materials or treatments to meet these needs can increase costs.

This enables stable supply, environmental impact reduction, and easy hygiene management.

Stable Raw Materials

The raw materials for “Kibiko” include pruned branches, sugarcane bagasse, and coffee grounds. Compared to wood shavings, which are affected by supply shortages and price surges, and rice husks, which have concerns about water absorption, “Kibiko” ensures stable supply and consistent quality.

Reduction of Odors in Livestock Housing

Two days after use, ammonia levels in control setups (using rice husks) rose to 600 ppm/hr. However, in livestock housing using “Kibiko,” ammonia levels remained below 200 ppm/hr after two days.

Odors in livestock housing are reduced by more than one-third!

Suppression of Pathogen Growth

In general, conventional wood shavings or compost-based bedding materials show significant E. coli proliferation within three days of use. However, in livestock housing using “Kibiko,” no E. coli was detected even after 21 days.

Furthermore, with our developed product “greevy,” used bedding materials that are typically difficult to compost can be rapidly transformed into compost.
